Biography
Aseel Najib is a scholar of Islam specializing in the late antique and early Islamic period. Her scholarship lies at the intersection of Islamic Studies, legal and political thought, and critical theory. Her current research engages land taxation as an investigative tool through which to query the relationships between law, politics, and capital; the state and land; and conquest and the international order. Some of her research has been published in the International Journal of Middle Eastern Studies. Prior to joining Dartmouth, she received her PhD from Columbia University's Department of Middle Eastern, South Asian, and African Studies and was a postdoctoral research fellow at Yale Law School.
