Charnan Williams is a historian who examines the history of California from the Gold Rush to the U.S. Civil War. Her research has received several awards including fellowships from the Huntington Library, the McNeil Center for Early American Studies, the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History, the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History, and the Bancroft Library at Berkeley. Some of her work on the American West and African American history has been published in the Western Historical Quarterly.

Charnan Williams received her PhD in History from the University of Michigan in 2022.
