Public Film Screening and Discussion with Medhin Paulos, director of Asmarina and co-founder of the Asmarina Project. Paulos’ film explores the experiences of the Habesha community of Milan and the lives of recent refugees to Italy from Eritrea and Ethiopia. She is a renowned photographer and electronic musician. Asmarina is her debut film. Harvard’s Lorgia García Peña will lead a discussion following the screening. Professor García Peña is the author of The Borders of Dominicanidad: Nations and Archives of Contradiction (Durham:  Duke University Press, 2016) and is at work on a new book tentatively titled “Translating Blackness: Latino/as Negotiating Race and Belonging Across the Atlantic.”
