‘America’s First Civil War’
Following two of his five siblings (Andrew ’02 and Lisa ’04), Schmidt [Class of 2009] arrived in Hanover in the fall of 2005 and went straight to the history department open house. “I remember talking to Colin Calloway. I remember his British accent and asking him, ‘What do you teach?’ He said, ‘Native American history,’ and it blew my mind.”
