The Department of History seeks Modern Intellectual History Postdoctoral Fellow

The Department of History at Dartmouth College seeks to appoint a Modern Intellectual History Postdoctoral Fellow for a two-year term beginning July 1, 2021. The successful applicant will combine a teaching assignment (typically offering two courses every four-term year) with the part-time duties of Managing Editor for the journal Modern Intellectual History. Research support is provided for this position, which is one of a growing number of Dartmouth-based post-doctoral opportunities.

Responsibilities for the journal include: managing manuscript submissions; corresponding with authors, editors, and the publisher; maintaining basic records and a small budget; light copy-editing; and carrying out publicity on social media. Although prior publishing experience is welcome, it is not a prerequisite.

The historian's geographic area of specialization is open.  Successful past candidates have worked on Islamic Africa and Europe, but given that MIH aspires to be a truly global journal, scholars working in all regions will be considered as long as their work is anchored in the cultural and intellectual history of the modern period, spanning roughly the mid-17th century to the present.
