The Barbadian Diaspora and the Expansion of the English Atlantic. Lecture by Justin Roberts, Assoc. Prof. of History Dalhousie University.
The English Caribbean colony of Barbados was at the center of the development oif slavery and intensive sugar production that established the plantation system. During the second half of the 17th century free and enslaved people from this small island spread out across the Atlantic world. Prof. Justin Roberts explores how their migration shaped the development of plantation capitalism and imperialism for generations to come.
