Telling the Stories of Runaway Slaves in Eighteenth-Century Scotland
A lecture by Simon Newman, Sir Denis Brogan Professor of American History, University of Glagow. Professor Newman is working on the history of enslaved people who tried to escape to freedom. With the support of the Leverhulme Trust he is engaged in a major study of enslaved people who were brought to Scotland and England in the eighteenth century, and who then escaped. He is also working on enslaved people who escaped from their owners in Jamaica and Britain’s other Caribbean colonies.
