Global Historical Studies in London, Fall 2022

Dartmouth’s History Faculty invite members of the classes of ’23, ’24, and ’25 to make London their laboratory for historical study this fall. A term in residence in Bloomsbury provides deep perspective on a metropole begun as an outpost of the Roman empire. A global city then emerged, and London became both a governing node of Britain’s far-flung empire and the site of landmark intellectual, economic, scientific, technological, cultural, and social developments. In a Summer 2022 class, students will lay the basis of their independent historical work, pursuing a British topic or a historical study involving Africa, Asia, Europe, or the Americas.

The FSP earns 3 credits:

One class within the renowned history program at University College London, taught by a UCL professor and pursued in a class including UCL students (= 1 Dartmouth Course Credit)

The History of London class, taught by a local specialist who emphasizes historical geography and leads weekly walking tours as part of his instruction (= 1 Dartmouth Course Credit)

Independent Research Project, carried out in a London-based archives under the guidance of Dartmouth faculty (= 1 Dartmouth Course Credit)

Grab n’ Go dinner will be served.

Apply to the program by April 15, 2022. For questions you may also consult with the Director, Professor Sackeyfio-Lenoch, or any of your professors.
