Petra McGillen is an Associate Professor of German Studies at Dartmouth College.
In 19C Germany, journalists devised a number of strategies to outsmart the censors they often faced. One was to hire fake editors whose sole job was to “take the fall” in the event of a crackdown, even going to jail if need be so the real editors could secretly continue working. This talk will analyze the “fake editor” phenomenon, and how it contributed to our present views of journalistic freedom and accountability.
Free and open to the public, sponsored by the Political Economy Project.
October 16, Rocky 3 (tentative venue) at 4:30 pm.
Events are free and open to the public unless otherwise noted.
