You are formally invited to an engaging Zoom book event featuring author Omer Aijazi. In his new book, Atmospheric Violence: Disaster and Repair in Kashmir, Aijazi examines how communities in the mountainous borderlands of Kashmir endure the twin forces of environmental disaster and armed conflict. He explores the everyday lives of five protagonists who navigate precarious conditions amid checkpoints, barracks, and recurring calamities, showing how repair, care, and intimacy sustain life where violence is constant and atmospheric. Moving beyond trauma and rupture, Aijazi offers a decolonial vision of disaster studies centered on the social labor of creating viable lives in the face of ongoing diminishment and world-annihilation.
